Integrated CMACast and MICAPS system supports relief efforts in Nepal after earthquake

Without relying on the local communication, the Integrated CMACast and MICAPS system served as the main weather forecast platform of the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) of Nepal within the first 24 hours after earthquake when the local internet failed, according to the information provided by the CMACast helpdesk. The weather forecasts generated by this integrated system provided important support for earthquake relief. This is the first time that the integrated system demonstrated its emergency response capabilities as it was designed.

Nepal is within the responsibility of Global Information System Centre (GISC) Beijing. CMA attaches great importance to the cooperation between CMA and DHM. Dr. Zheng Guoguang, Administrator of CMA and PR of China with WMO, sent a condolence letter to Nepal earthquake victims on 28 April 2015 and expressed the willingness of CMA to provide required meteorological assistance.
