Developing countries need to strengthen their scientific and technical capability to contribute to climate science and research, and to develop and implement climate change policies and measures at the domestic and international levels.  To help meet that need, the UNEP/WMO Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) established a Scholarship Programme, with the funds received from the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize.  The Programme has now issued its first call for proposals, to be submitted by 31 July 2010.  Special attention will be given to applications from candidates from the Least Developed Countries, Small Island Developing States, and the regions worst hit by droughts, floods, famine and changed patterns of precipitation.
