Election new Technical Commissions

Executive Council recommends that the president  and the vice-presidents of each new commission be elected by the 18th Meteorological Congress in June 2019 from amongst current presidents and vice-presidents of technical commissions as a one-time measure aimed at expediting the transition to the new structure.

The 18th World Meteorological Congress established the following:

  • Commission for Observation, Infrastructure and Information Systems (Infrastructure Commission)
  • Commission for Weather, Climate, Water and Related Environmental Services and Applications (Applications Commission)
  • The Research Board on Weather, Climate, Water and the Environment (Research Board)

for the nineteenth financial period 2020-2023 and the dissolution of the current eight technical commissions, following the completion of the transition period of the new structures.

In this respect in accordance with the final paragraph of Article 8 of the Convention, the president and the vice-presidents the new commissions were elected by Congress from amongst current presidents and vice-presidents of technical commissions (see below) as a one-time measure aimed at expediting the transition to the new structure of the Commissions.

Infrastructure Commission

  • President:  Michel Jean (Canada)
  • Vice-presidents: Bruce Forgan (Australia), Pinardi (Italy) and Silvano Pecora (Italy)

Applications Commission

  • President: Ian Lisk (United Kingdom)
  • Vice-presidents: Chi-Ming Shun ( Hong Kong, China), Roger Stone (Australia) and Manola Brunet India (Spain)

The Members of the Research Board were appointed by the 71st Executive Council.
