Jakarta, Indonesia/ Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr. Luhut B. Pandjaitan officially launched BMKG Ocean Forecasting System (BMKG-OFS) at 31st March, 2017 in BMKG Headquarter, Kemayoran, Jakarta.
“OFS is an innovation in Indonesia maritime forecasting that can provide ocean condition up to 7 days. Indonesian should be proud about this amazing and world class technology” said Mr. Luhut during press conference after the launched of BMKG-OFS in BMKG headquarters.
BMKG-OFS was developed from 2016. This system is a forecasting system that design specially for Indonesian seas. The main purpose is to provide an accurate meteorological ocean analysis and prediction. BMKG-OFS is a part of BMKG Meteorological Early Warning System where it’s provides information on wind, waves, swell, currents, sea temp, salinity, tide, sea level, trajectory and coastal inundation up to 7 Days forecast.
“BMKG-OFS is an answer to provide all information for maritime condition in Indonesia. It’s can support every aspect such as transportation, fishery, tourism, economic, conservation and can also provide information about trajectory oil spill / marine debris and to support Search and Rescue (SAR) data in the ocean” said Director General of BMKG, Dr. Andi Eka Sakya during the launched event.
