Indonesia / At the end of April 2016, for 4 days (26 – 29 April 206), The Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics of Republic of Indonesia (BMKG), held a National Coordination Meeting (RAKORNAS in Bahasa) with more than 550 BMKG employees, involving all Heads of BMKG Stations and Regional Offices all over Indonesia. RAKORNAS is an annual coordination meeting to discuss BMKG strategy on the budget and plan for the next year.
The theme for RAKORNAS BMKG this year is “Equipment’s Automatization to Improve Data Quality for the Enhancement of the Information Services on Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics”
“This theme was chosen because data is the important key for information services on meteorology, climatology and geophysics. That’s why BMKG assigned 2016 as the year of data” stated Director General of BMKG, Dr. Andi Eka Sakya in his report to the Minister of Transportation at the opening ceremony of RAKORNAS BMKG.
RAKORNAS BMKG 2016 was opened by the Minister of Transportation of Republic of Indonesia, Mr. Ignasius Jonan, emphasizing the importance of BMKG in transportation, particularly with the increasing number of new airports and ports built in Indonesia this year, to which why they need reliable support on meteorological information to increase the transportation safety in Indonesia.
At the opening ceremony of RAKORNAS, BMKG also held a live video conference from Geneva with Dr. Wenjian Zhang, Director of the Observing and Information System Department of WMO. In this live video conference, Dr. Zhang gave a presentation about WMO Open Data Policy, WIGOS and Big Data Challenge to all RAKORNAS participants. (kd)
