A September that felt like autumn – cool, often rainy, not much sunshine - Deutscher Wetterdienst

Whereas September 2016 came up trumps with very warm weather, September 2017 was really autumnal: low pressure systems and extensions of these coming in from the west determined the weather by bringing in mainly cool air during the first 20 days of the month. The lows left little time for the intervening ridges of high pressure to deliver heat and sunshine. Although the influence of high pressure was more prevalent in the last third of the month, there was no Indian summer. Instead, an upper-air depression brought generally very cloudy conditions, isolated showers and thunderstorms. Overall, September 2017 tended to be cool, precipitation was slightly above average and there was much too little sunshine. This is what the initial analysis by the Deutscher Wetterdienst (DWD) of data from its around 2,000 weather stations shows.
