“After the warmest November since 1881, December 2015 has broken previous temperature records, too. A temperature of 5.6 degrees Celsius higher than the long-term monthly average is a remarkable end to an exceptional year in climatological terms, both in Germany and globally,” said Dr Paul Becker, Vice-President of the DWD. December 2015 was not only the warmest across Germany as a whole since nationwide measurements started in 1881 but it was also the warmest in every single German Federal State. Over the last four weeks, a continuous series of very cold air masses moved from northern Canada to the North Atlantic.
