WMO Fellows in China mark Lunar New Year

Participants at the WMO Fellowship Programme offered by China's Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology (NUIST) celebrated ahead of the Spring Festival, in a break from an intense education and training programme that develops their scientific and management capacity.

China is a major contributor to WMO’s Education and Training Programme. There are two WMO Regional Training Centre (RTC) Component in China : RTC-Nanjing at NUIST and RTC-Beijing in the China Meteorological Administration Training Centre (CMATC). Both RTC's provide about 10 short operational courses to WMO Members very year. RTC Nanjing is the major university in China who support degree study fellows from BSc to PhD.
 

The aim of the WMO Fellowship Programme is to support the education and training of qualified and suitable candidates from least developed and developing countries Fellowship holders derive from their training the knowledge and professional competence that increases their ability to make essential contribution to enhancing the capabilities of the National Meteorological and Hydrological Services and enable them to participate more actively in the economic and social development of their countries.

 

There are currently about 58 fellows studying in China and around 100 graduated before, supported by WMO fellowships and Chinese partner.
