The overarching goal for the programme “GFCS Adaptation and Disaster Risk Reduction in Africa” is to provide timely and accurate climate and weather services for disaster risk reduction and increased resilience in agriculture.

Through an agreement with Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA), WMO is supporting countries in West Africa to improve the severe weather forecasting and warning services. By making best use of the latest available weather prediction products and satellite-based information and radar products, countries will be able to better cope and respond to climate variability and change. SWFDP has already shown considerable progress and success in different regions including Southern and Eastern Africa, South Pacific and Southeast Asia and is now being replicated in West Africa.

The WMO Regional Association I (Africa) has set its priorities for the next four years, with the nomination of Mr Fetene Teshome, the Director General of the Ethiopian Meteorology Institute (EMI) and Permanent Representative (PR) of Ethiopia with WMO as the new President of the Association, and the Director-General of Mozambican National Institute of Meteorology (MNI) and the country’s Permanent Representative (PR) with World Meteorological Organization, Dr Adérito Celso Félix Aramuge as the Vice President.

Pour relever les défis liés au climat, la Côte d’Ivoire a mis en place des programmes dans lesquels intervient le Service Météorologique National. C’est dans ce contexte que la Côte d’Ivoire a élaboré son Cadre National pour les Services Climatiques (CNSC) qui est piloté par le Service Météorologique National (SMN) de la Société D’exploitation et de développement Aéroportuaire, Aéronautique et Météorologique (SODEXAM) avec l’appui de l’Organisation Météorologique Mondiale (OMM). Ce cadre (CNSC 2016-2020) qui a été adopté en 2017, a permis d’identifier les principaux acteurs au sein des de cinq secteurs prioritaires.

Les Experts ivoiriens se consultent pour la mise en place d’un cadre national d’évaluation de l’évolution du climat. Une quarantaine d’experts ivoiriens issus de plusieurs institutions publiques et privées dont le ministère de l’Environnement et du Développement Durable et la Société de Développement et d’Exploitation aéronautique Aéroportuaire et Météorologique (SODEXAM), ont tenu un atelier de consultation nationale relatif à la mise en place du Groupe d’Experts National sur l’Évolution du Climat (GENEC) en Côte d’Ivoire du jeudi 06 au vendredi 07 Mai 2021 à l’image du Groupe d’Experts Intergouvernemental sur l’Evolution du Climat (GIEC).
