The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) launched its new Himawari-9 geostationary meteorological satellite on 2 November 2016 from the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency’s Tanegashima Space Center using H-IIA launch vehicle No. 31 (H-IIA F31). The satellite entered geostationary orbit on 11 November 2016 as scheduled. The unit was successfully launched and separated from its carrying vehicle about 30 minutes after liftoff. Aceh, Indonesia / A 6.5 magnitude earthquake struck off Pidie Jaya, about 106 kilometers south-east of the city of Banda Aceh, at 05:03 local time on Wednesday (7/12). The earthquake occurred t a depth of 15 km. The Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG) state that the quake had no potential to trigger a tsunami. 2016 the research vessel Akademik Treshnikov starts from the harbour of Bremerhaven, Germany, for the first phase of the International circumnavigation Antarctic expedition (ACE). The Arctic and Antarctic Institute’s (Roshydromet) vessel Akademik Treshnikov is the ship of the enforced ice class destined for operations of the Russian Antarctic expedition (RAE), as well as for working in the Arctic ocean.
