Twelve international organizations providing assistance to developing countries came together at the UN Climate Change Conference today to launch the Alliance for Hydromet Development. The members of the Alliance have committed collectively to ramp up action that strengthens the capacity of developing countries to deliver high-quality weather forecasts, early warning systems, water, hydrological and climate services. Known for short as “hydromet” services, these underpin resilient development by protecting lives, property and livelihoods.
Assisting National Meteorological and Hydrological Services in providing weather and climate services to farmers, herders and fishermen in order to promote sustainable agricultural development, increase productivity and contribute to food security.

Congress also approved a new collaborative framework on the ocean to streamline and enhance WMO ocean activities, boost inter-agency coordination and cooperation, and contribute to the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, which runs from 2021 to 2030.
The objective of the WMO reform is to increase the Organization’s effectiveness and efficiency, and to better engage Members and experts.
