WMO Global Data Center for Aircraft-Based Observations

Providing a central repository for global aircraft-based observations exchanged on the WMO Information System

The WMO Global Data Center for Aircraft-Based Observations (GDC-ABO) is provided by the USA, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP), Meteorological Assimilation Data Ingest System (MADIS).

The data centre provides the National Meteorological and Hydrological Services of WMO Members and validated international data users with access to AMDAR and other aircraft-based observations that have been shared on the WMO Information System.

The GDC-ABO was established by the WMO Executive Council (EC-69 Resolution 6) in May 2017, based on a recommendation of the WMO Commission for Basic Systems and is expected to be available operationally from late-2018.
