The overarching goal for the programme “GFCS Adaptation and Disaster Risk Reduction in Africa” is to provide timely and accurate climate and weather services for disaster risk reduction and increased resilience in agriculture.

The programme has a wide reach through the African continent, covering Eastern, Southern and Western Africa. The programme is divided into two separate but interlinked overarching modules; Firstly, Strategy Development, supporting the GFCS Secretariat and the African Ministerial Conference on Meteorology (AMCOMET) and secondly Technical Capacity and Service Delivery that through different sub-components aim to increase the National Hydrological and Meteorological Services (NMHS) capacities in providing timely and accurate severe weather forecast. This involves having the necessary human resource capacity, the equipment for forecast and the ability to transmit the severe weather forecasts to the end-users.
