A new analysis of European temperature data from January through November 2014 confirms that 2014 will almost certainly be the region’s warmest year on record. Initial estimates forecast the January-December annual mean temperature for Europe to be 0.3°C above the previous record set in 2007. The globally averaged temperature over land and ocean surfaces for June 2014 was the highest for June since record keeping began, driven by record sea surface temperatures, according to the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the Japan Meteorological Agency’s Tokyo Climate Center.
