On May 1, Fengyun-4A, the first spacecraft of Chinese next-generation geostationary meteorological satellite and its ground system, were officially put into operation. FY-4A is the first quantitative remote sensing satellite with a three-axis stabilization structure on geostationary orbit for China. Four new instruments are onboard, namely, Advanced Geosynchronous Radiation Imager (AGRI), Geosynchronous Interferometric Infrared Sounder (GIIRS), Lightning Mapping Imager (LMI) and Space Environment Package (SEP). On April 24, China Meteorological Administration (CMA) released the Emergency Support Mechanism for International Users of FengYun Meteorological Satellites in Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (hereinafter referred to as Mechanism). When suffering from meteorological disasters such as typhoons, rainstorms, severe convections, forest and grassland fires, sandstorms, the countries along the “Belt and Road” may apply for initiating the Mechanism to get high-frequency cloud atlas and quantitative products from Fengyun satellites.
