People residing in sandstorm-affected areas urgently call for establishing regional and specialized monitoring and warning center, and Regional Specialized Meteorological Center with activity specialization on Atmospheric Sand and Dust Forecast (RSMC-ASDF) of World Meteorological Organization (WMO) came into being.

Weather experts are meeting in Honiara, Solomon Islands to discuss further improvement of forecasting and providing early warnings on severe weather such as heavy rainfall, strong winds and high waves associated with tropical cyclones and other weather events.
