WMO’s Regional Association for South America (RAIII) has agreed on key priorities to improve infrastructure and strengthen capacity of National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs) to deliver high impact weather, water and climate services. WMO has signed an agreement with the government of Ethiopia to open its new Regional Office for Africa in Addis Ababa in order to strengthen relations with key institutions like the African Union and to improve support for Members on the African continent.

The World Meteorological Organization’s new office for Asia and the South-West Pacific has started operations in Singapore. It will seek to improve coordination on hazards including extreme weather and air pollution and to strengthen meteorological services for rapidly evolving economic sectors such as air and marine transport.

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has signed a host country agreement with the Government of Nigeria for the WMO Sub-Regional Office for North Central and West Africa in Abuja. WMO is boosting its regional presence in order to improve services to Members, and strengthen relationships with development partners. WMO also has a sub-regional office in Nairobi, Kenya, for Eastern and Southern Africa. The WMO Regional office for Africa will be moved from Geneva to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in early 2019.

World Meteorological Organization Secretary-General Petteri Taalas today announced a joint commitment with the World Bank to spearhead the creation of an Alliance for Hydromet Development to boost climate and weather science and information for a resilient world.
