The expedition "TRANSARCTICA – 2019, the first stage" precedes the work of the international floating Observatory, planned to be deployed in the framework of the MOSAiC project (The Multi-Disciplinary drifting Observatory for the study of Arctic Climate programme). Taking into account, the scientific and practical results obtained in the expedition will contribute to the successful implementation of the MOSAiC project.

February 2019 was warmer than normal in temperatures with below average precipitation and relative humidities. The mean temperature of the month was 19.1°C which is 1.2°C above the long-term normal for February. The mean maximum temperature of the month was 22.0°C which is 0.8°C above the long-term normal. The highest temperature recorded during the month was 26.3°C which occurred on the 27th of February at Bahrain International Airport but recorded 27.6°C on the 16th of February at Durrat Al Bahrain. Weather experts are meeting in Honiara, Solomon Islands to discuss further improvement of forecasting and providing early warnings on severe weather such as heavy rainfall, strong winds and high waves associated with tropical cyclones and other weather events. This is organized under the WMO Severe Weather Forecast and Disaster Risk Reduction Demonstration Project (SWFDDP).
