The state of the planet’s water resources is recognized as one of the greatest global challenges faced by our rapidly transforming world. WMO is to expand its acclaimed Severe Weather Forecasting Demonstration Project to West Africa in a drive to provide reliable forecasts of hazardous weather in support of disaster risk reduction. Representatives of National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs) from nine countries in West Africa met in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, from 4 to 8 September to develop a draft implementation plan, thanks to seed funding from Korean Meteorological Administration (KMA).

Volcanic activity at Mount Agung in Bali, Indonesia, and potential risks to air transport from volcanic ash is being closely monitored by an international network including WMO. Indonesian authorities have been closely watching Mount Agung for weeks. On 27 November, Indonesia's National Board for Disaster Management raised the alert level to level 4 and urged people living within 10 km of the volcano to evacuate.
