Laura Paterson

Ms Laura Paterson is the WMO Representative and Coordinator to the United Nations and other International Organizations in North America. In this role she works to establish and maintain critical links between the World Meteorological Organization and the United Nations Secretariat, Permanent Missions of Member States to the United Nations in New York, other UN System organizations and other entities headquartered in New York and elsewhere in North America, with relevance to WMO’s mandate.

A meteorologist with over 15 years’ experience in the field of meteorological services, Ms Paterson previously served as WMO Coordination Officer: UN System Decision Support and Processes, supporting the WMO Representative to the United Nations, and leading on ensuring the critical flow of authoritative weather, climate and water information from WMO Members to the United Nations Operations and Crisis Centre (UNOCC).

Prior to joining WMO, Ms Paterson was Chief Meteorologist at the UK’s National Weather and Climate Service, the Met Office, and served in many roles in the science to decision making and policy interface, including as Private Secretary to the Chief Executive, and through deployments with the British Antarctic Survey and UK Ministry of Defence.

Laura is a Chartered Meteorologist.
