Overview:
The Integrated Global Greenhouse Gas Information System (IG3IS) approach combines atmospheric observations with activity-based estimates of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions within a modeling framework. This integration improves both the timeliness and accuracy of emission estimates. It is applicable at various scales relevant to decision-making, ranging from individual facilities to urban areas and national levels.
At the national scale, this approach can enhance traditional inventories used for reporting to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and for planning Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). The IG3IS Steering Committee (SC) has developed a guidance document for the good practices for national-scale emission evaluation. This report is based on successful implementations in several countries and the general principles outlined in the 2019 Refinement to the 2006 IPCC Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories. The webinar will briefly discuss the key highlights and future direction of the National-scale Guidelines.
