The Provisional 2026 Edition of the Guide to Instruments and Methods of Observation (WMO-No. 8) has been prepared following the Members’ review process of the Preliminary 2026 Edition, taking into account comments received from Members, experts of the Standing Committee on Measurements, Instrumentation and Traceability (SC-MINT), and a few members of the HydroMeteorological and Environmental Industry (HMEI).
The Provisional 2026 Edition will be submitted to the fourth session of the Commission for Observation, Infrastructure and Information Systems (INFCOM-4), to be held from 23 to 27 November 2026 in Geneva, Switzerland, for approval.
Considering it is WMO’s primary guidance material for Members on instruments, measurement technologies and observing methods, SC-MINT will continue to regularly review and update the Guide to Instruments and Methods of Observation, taking into account advances in measurement technologies and observing practices, as well as the evolving requirements of Members.
