G3W Network Design Workshop - Event report

Share:
Observations are fundamental for G3W, for data assimilation, modelling and verification.

A global GHG observation network is a complex system across almost all Earth system domains (land, ocean, atmosphere, and cryosphere) consisting of surface-based and space-based efforts. A dedicated hybrid G3W Network Design Workshop took place in Geneva, Switzerland on 7-9 October 2025. Members of the Task Team on G3W Networks and invited experts discussed several approaches to the network and came up with a number or recommendations that will be summarized in the workshop report.

The approaches that were considered at the workshop include network optimization based on the results of model intercomparisons and satellite data utilization, based on the footprint analysis, optimization of the surface ocean observing networks and results of the Observing System Simulation Experiments, including benefits and impact of the optimized network.

The workshop presentations are now available in a PDF document.

The report of the G3W Network design workshop will be published on this page soon.
