The RA VI Regional Climate Centre (RCC) Coordination Team met online on 3 February 2026 to review progress in regional climate services and discuss strategic priorities for the RCC Network.

The meeting began with a dialogue with coordinators of the Regional Climate Outlook Forums (PARCOF, NEACOF, MEDCOF and SEECOF). Discussions focused on strengthening alignment between RCC activities, operational priorities and user needs, while advancing implementation of the Lisbon RCC Roadmap. Participants highlighted progress in climate prediction, monitoring and data services, including expanded access to seasonal-to-decadal forecasts and continued delivery of Climate Watch advisories for monitoring climate extremes.

Soil moisture was identified as a priority parameter for drought monitoring and will be integrated into objective Climate Watch advisories, together with new application-oriented products based on reanalysis data. RCC Nodes and National Meteorological and Hydrological Services also continue contributing to major assessments such as the European and BAMS State of the Climate reports.

At the regional level, Regional Climate Outlook Forums are gradually evolving into broader Regional Climate Forums, expanding from seasonal outlook discussions toward more comprehensive climate services platforms and strengthened engagement with user communities.

Strategic discussions within the RCC Coordination Team addressed preparations for upcoming RA VI governance processes and the future development of the RCC Network. Meteo Romania was confirmed to have successfully completed its pilot phase and will formally join the RA VI RCC Network.

Participants also highlighted the importance of strengthening the visibility of RCC activities, reinforcing collaboration with partners such as Copernicus, and focusing RCC products on high-value services that support national meteorological and hydrological services and bridge research and operational climate services.

The next RCC Coordination Meeting is planned for May 2026.
