RA VI RCC Network Coordination Meeting - Highlights
The RA VI RCC Coordination Team met with RCOF coordinators (PARCOF, NEACOF, MEDCOF, SEECOF) to strengthen alignment between regional coordination, operational priorities, and user needs, supporting the Lisbon roadmap.
Progress was reported in climate prediction, monitoring, data access, and Climate Watch advisories. Soil moisture was highlighted as a priority for drought monitoring, and contributions from RCC nodes and NMHSs continue to feed into European and WMO State of the Climate reporting.
Regional Climate Outlook Forums are evolving into broader Regional Climate Forums, expanding forecasts to sub-seasonal and annual timescales, improving methodologies, and engaging users. Efforts continue to address data gaps, particularly in soil moisture and extreme precipitation, while emphasizing the importance of in situ observations.
The meeting also focused on strategic priorities for the RCC network, including strengthening coordination, enhancing regional services, and exploring potential network developments. The next RCC coordination meeting is planned for May, with the date to be confirmed.
