IG3IS Webinar Series (Q3-Q4, 2025): Updated IG3IS Urban Greenhouse Gas Emission Observation and Monitoring Good Research Practice Guidelines
Speaker:
Jocelyn Turnbull, Greenhouse Gas Research Scientist, Earth Sciences New Zealand, and the University of Colorado, USA, and Co-chair, WMO Integrated Global Greenhouse Gas Information System (IG3IS).
Overview:
IG3IS is dedicated to establishing effective practices that enhance the evaluation of greenhouse gas emissions and their absorption on decision-relevant scales. In 2022, IG3IS published the first version of the IG3IS Urban Greenhouse Gas Emission Observation and Monitoring Good Research Practice Guidelines. These guidelines require regular updates to incorporate new advancements in science and technology, as well as to clarify the connection between scientific practices and their implementation by policymakers and other stakeholders. The 2025 revision has gone through public review and workshops (both online and hybrid) to gather feedback from the community. The second edition of the document was published on September 30, 2025 (available here). The key highlights and future direction of the Urban Guidelines will be presented by Jocelyn Turnbull, one of the lead authors.
