The Integrated Global Greenhouse Gas Information System (IG3IS) is an initiative by the Global Atmosphere Watch (GAW) Programme of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) aimed at developing an innovative service to support greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions management. The IG3IS approach integrates atmospheric observations with activity-based GHG emissions estimates within a modelling framework. This integration enhances the timeliness and quality of emission estimates. It is applicable at various decision-relevant scales, ranging from individual facilities to urban areas and national levels. At the national scale, this approach can complement traditional inventories used for reporting to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and for planning Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC).

The workshop has two main objectives: first, to discuss existing good practices for IG3IS applications at the national scale, review available demonstrations, and provide guidance on these applications; second, to engage with the user community on the applicability of this approach, especially for countries with limited infrastructure.

The event will be held in a hybrid format, allowing for both online and in-person participation. Please note that no financial support is available for attending the workshop in person.

The agenda of the event is available here.

IG3IS is currently working on the IG3IS National Scale Greenhouse Gas Emission Observation and Monitoring Good Practice Guidance 2025 and welcome any comments or feedback on the document. Comments on the document will be discussed during the workshop. Please go to the following link to add your input.
