WMO-CGMS VLab Regional Training Event
Tashkent, Uzbekistan
Based on the feedback from Members, WMO has identified the Central Asia and Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) region as significantly underserved in terms of sustained training and capacity-building opportunities for the effective use of satellite data and products. This gap is due in part to the region’s position between areas primarily supported by different satellite operators, resulting in fragmented coverage and limited coordination.
To address this critical need, the WMO Space Programme organizes a Regional Training Event hosted by Uzhydromet in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, from 8 to 10 October 2025. The event will bring together expert trainers from EUMETSAT, CMA, and CIMSS–University of Wisconsin.
Structure of the Event
The event will consist of:
- Thematic presentations by international experts;
- Hands-on sessions focusing on regional applications;
- Technical discussions on integrating satellite data into forecasting systems;
- Opportunities for peer exchange among NMHSs.
Expected Outcomes
The training event aims to:
- Strengthen regional collaboration and information exchange on satellite data applications;
- Build institutional capacity through practical training and expert dialogue;
- Prepare NMHSs for the utilization of next-generation meteorological satellites;
- Support the integration of satellite-based observations into national forecasting and early warning systems.
