FENGYUN-4C meteorological satellite lifted off

At 0:07 on December 27, 2025, China launched FENGYUN-4C (FY-4C) meteorological satellite into its designated orbit using the Changzheng-3 rocket from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center, in Sichuan. FY-4C is the latest member of FY-4 series, China's second-generation geostationary meteorological satellite series. It will replace FY-4A, and form a observation network with FY-4B, consolidating the operational pattern of "dual - satellite operation and in-orbit backup".

Dr. CAO Xiaozhong, Commander-in-Chief of FENGYUN Meteorological Satellite Program, and Deputy Administrator of the China Meteorological Administration (CMA) introduced that the latest-launched FY-4C achieves a comprehensive leap in observation performance, which will significantly enhance the frequency and accuracy of monitoring and early warnings for small and medium-scale weather systems. It features high stability, high precision, high-speed transmission and processing, and high efficiency, laying the foundation for enhancing the effectiveness of the FY meteorological satellite system.
