Satellite Data powers new breakthroughs in weather forecasting research, extending advanced prediction of severe convective weather to 4 hours
Recently, WANG Jingsong, researcher at the National Satellite Meteorological Centre (National Centre for Space Weather), has collaborated with researchers from Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen), Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and Guangzhou Institute of Tropical and Marine Meteorology of the China Meteorological Administration (CMA) to develop a deep diffusion model based on data from the FENGYUN (FY) meteorological satellites. The model has successfully extended the effective lead time of nowcasting for severe convective weather to 4 hours.
