12 January 2021

Widespread dull and humid ‘grotty weather’ Offenbach, 30 October 2020 – After plenty of sunshine in the previous month, December brought very cloudy and dull conditions. This typical ‘grotty weather’ was accompanied either by moderately cold or by unusually mild temperatures. A nationwide drop in temperature by a good 10 degrees ensured a white surprise on Christmas day in the low mountain ranges. On 27th December, low ‘Hermine’ brought storms to the west and more snow to the mountains. All in all, the year 2020 bid farewell with a December which was too warm, dry and severely lacking in sunshine. This has been announced by the Deutscher Wetterdienst (DWD) after an initial analysis of the observations from its approximately 2,000 measuring stations.
