On 10 December 2025, the WMO Space Programme, in collaboration with the WMO Regional Office for Asia and the South-West Pacific (RAP), organized a Virtual Workshop on Python for Satellite Data Processing and Visualization. This initiative responded to a strong call for technical training expressed during the 14th Asia-Oceania Meteorological Satellite Users Conference (AOMSUC-14), underscoring the growing need for practical skills in satellite data processing and visualization.

The workshop brought together around 250 technical experts from RA II (Asia) and RA V (South-West Pacific). Sessions focused on:

  • Decoding satellite data for product generation
  • Introduction to the SATAID Python Package
  • Applying AI to enhance Python scripts for satellite product generation

Delivered by experts from HKO and BMKG, the training provided both foundational concepts and hands-on guidance relevant to operational meteorology and aviation services.

Beyond technical skills and development, the event fostered peer-to-peer exchange and cultivated a community of practice, aligning with WMO's goal of strengthening regional collaboration and enhancing capacity across its Members.
