Sara Aagesen Muñoz
Sara Aagesen Muñoz, born in Madrid in 1976, is a chemical engineer from the Complutense University of Madrid. She has been active in national and international climate policy since 2002. She previously led Spain’s energy transition as Secretary of State for Energy, advancing decarbonization and resilience initiatives. Appointed Minister in November 2024, she oversees climate adaptation, water management, and biodiversity protection. Under her leadership, Spain has advanced the creation of a State Agency for Civil Protection and Emergencies to enhance national preparedness and early warning coordination. Her ministry’s initiatives on drought response, flood protection, and wildfire prevention directly contribute to disaster risk reduction and inclusive early warning systems.
