Observing Today, Protecting Tomorrow

Discover how we are observing today and protecting tomorrow – from an astronaut in space, a round-the-world ocean racer, and meteorological observers and schoolchildren in Antarctica – at the World Meteorological Day ceremony.

And find out why we need to observe today to protect tomorrow with the release of the State of the Global Climate 2025 report. This will be launched by WMO Secretary-General Celeste Saulo, with a special video message from UN Secretary-General António Guterres and presentations from WMO’s Youth Team.

WMO’s flagship report tracks key climate indicators – greenhouse gas concentrations, temperatures, ocean heat and acidification, sea level rise, glaciers and ice, and provides details of extreme weather events and their impacts on food security, displacement and health.

The World Meteorological Day ceremony will showcase the extraordinary global observing and monitoring system which underpins national economies and global well-being.

Follow the livestreamed ceremony at the World Meteorological Organization headquarters in Geneva on Monday, 23 March, at 15:00 CET.
