G3W Newsletter (Q4 2024)
Looking back at 2024, this edition of the G3W Newsletter takes the opportunity to celebrate the collective achievements of the Global Greenhouse Gas Watch (G3W) initiative and its growing recognition on the global stage.

Reflecting on Progress and Advancing Climate Action: G3W Newsletter Q4 2024
The newsletter delves into the initiative's inaugural steps, significant achievements, and collective efforts driving progress in greenhouse gas monitoring. Key updates include the establishment of task teams, the launch of implementation activities, and insights from collaborative workshops with the global scientific community.
A major highlight f the year was G3W’s acknowledgment at COP29, where its progress was officially recognized, underscoring the importance of its work.
In 2025,G3W’s priority activities will focus on enhancing observations, modeling, and data integration. These efforts aim to fully incorporate G3W into the WMO Information System (WIS) and the WMO Integrated Processing and Prediction System (WIPPS), ensuring seamless data flow and accessibility.
On behalf of WMO, the G3W team, and myself, I extend warm wishes for a bright and prosperous 2025. May the new year bring expanded collaboration with global data providers and greenhouse gas observation network operators, fostering meaningful achievements, continued growth, and lasting partnerships. We deeply appreciate your trust and support and look forward to reaching new milestones together in 2025.
Dr. Gianpaolo Balsamo.

WMO Secretary-General Celeste Saulo will engage with the public and private sector leaders in Davos to strengthen collaboration against escalating global risks.
G3W is moving forward
The Global Greenhouse Gas Watch (G3W) Enters a New Chapter.
As a recent greenhouse gas monitoring initiative, the Global Greenhouse Gas Watch (G3W) had preparatory work done in 2024.
Task teams have been established to address essential priorities identified in the implementation plan. The inaugural meetings mark an important step forward, with increased expertise and collaborations, as G3W transitions into its Implementation and Pre-Operational Phase.
Strengthening greenhouse gas monitoring: insights from the global and national initiatives workshop
Scientific initiatives to support the Global Greenhouse Gas Watch (G3W).
In a rapidly warming world, monitoring greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions is a critical pillar of climate action. To advance this objective, G3W experts actively participated in in-depth discussions with the scientific community during a pivotal workshop.
COP29: Will it make the world a better place?
An important recognition of Global Greenhouse Gas Watch (G3W) work at COP29. What Comes Next?
Regarding the urgent need to monitor greenhouse gases, the COP29 climate conference has officially recognized G3W progress.
