Leta Bekele Gudina
Mr. Leta Bekele Gudina was born in East Shoa, Oromia Region, Ethiopia, on February 19, 1985. He is an Ethiopian national with a strong academic foundation and professional commitment to advancing meteorology and climate science in Ethiopia.
Leta holds a Master of Science degree in Climate Change and Sustainable Agriculture from Hawassa University (2015–2017) and a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorological Science from Arba Minch University (2005–2007). His academic background has provided him with deep expertise in understanding climate systems, sustainable development, and the practical application of meteorological science for societal benefit.
With over 15 years of professional experience, Leta is a dedicated Meteorology and Climate Expert specializing in climatological data analysis, agro-meteorology, early warning systems, and GIS-based climate modeling. His work has significantly contributed to improving climate data management, product development, and the delivery of vital climate services in Ethiopia.
Currently, Leta serves as a key expert at the Ethiopian Meteorological Institute (EMI), where he is responsible for:
- Ensuring the highest standards of data quality control and processing for national climate records.
- Leading the preparation of monthly, seasonal, and annual climate bulletins used by government agencies and NGOs for planning and decision-making.
- Developing and maintaining national climatological products and maps, including gridded and merged datasets.
- Contributing to the enhancement of EMI’s Maproom products, improving access to climate information for various stakeholders.
- Monitoring and distributing satellite-based climate bulletins, promoting effective communication and user engagement.
- Focal person on the development of CB-EWS by CMA.
Through his professional journey, Leta has demonstrated exceptional skill in transforming complex climate data into actionable insights that support sustainable agriculture and disaster risk reduction. His dedication and leadership continue to strengthen Ethiopia’s climate information systems.
