Operationalization of Objective Seasonal Forecasts and Sectoral Products on Sub-Regional Scales
Casablanca, Morocco
The World Meteorological Organization (WMO), under the EU-funded Intra-ACP Climate Services and Related Applications (ClimSA) Programme, continues to support the strengthening of the climate services value chain across African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) regions through targeted technical assistance, infrastructure development and capacity-building.
Within this framework, WMO contributes to ClimSA through direct support to the operationalization and enhancement of Regional Climate Centres (RCCs) and selected focus countries, with particular emphasis on improving the quality, consistency, traceability and usability of regional climate information and prediction products.
Under ClimSA Output 3, Activity 3.5, WMO is mandated to provide recommendations for each region on leveraging regional Climate Services Toolkits (CSTs) to support the generation of objective seasonal forecasts. This activity directly supports WMO’s broader efforts to transition Regional Climate Outlook Forums (RCOFs) and Regional Climate Forums (RCFs) from predominantly subjective or consensus-based outlooks towards more objective, reproducible and verifiable seasonal forecasting approaches.
The proposed workshop aims to strengthen the capacity of ACP RCCs to operationalize objective seasonal forecasting methodologies and to expand the range of sector-relevant climate products delivered at sub-regional scales.
