As climate-related hazards become more frequent and severe, there is a growing need for early warning systems that can stregnthen preparedness and acurrately support decision-making. This joint webinar brings together insights from the Horizon Europe-funded MedEWSa project and the ANTICIPATE COST Action to explore advances in multi-hazard forecasting, early warning systems and anticipatory action. MedEWSa is developing an integrated, impact-based multi-hazard early warning system for Europe, the Mediterranean and Africa, combining artificial intelligence, decision-support tools and operational forecasting to enhance disaster risk reduction and emergency response. ANTICIPATE is building a pan-European network to combine long-range forecasting with multi-hazard approaches, thereby supporting earlier and more effective warnings and preparedness actions.
The webinar will showcase practical lessons, best practices, and future challenges emerging from MedEWSa and ANTICIPATE pilot activities. The discussion will also place these efforts within the broader context of international cooperation, featuring reflections from the WMO Research Board on opportunities for collaboration across research, operational services and stakeholder communities. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in an interactive Q&A and discussion on the future of multi-hazard early warning systems and anticipatory risk management.
