Carlos Batista

Carlos Batista is a distinguished industrial engineer and environmentalist. His passion for the natural environment began in his childhood in San José de las Matas, where his father, who was involved in the Plan Sierra, instilled in him a deep respect for nature. These experiences marked the beginning of a lifelong commitment to sustainability and environmental preservation.

A graduate of the Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña (UNPHU), with a focus on Food Technology, he furthered his academic training with a Master’s in Renewable Energies and Energy Projects, completed in 2024 at the European Center for Postgraduate Studies and Business (CEUPE).

He worked in the private sector with companies involved in synthetic polymers, gaining valuable experience in waste management and its environmental impact. This expertise has enabled him to develop and deliver talks on plastic pollution and its influence on sustainability.

His interest in environmental issues and his skill in the use of maps and geographic systems led him to join the SOS Ambiente RD movement in 2018, and a year later, the Coalition for the Defense of Protected Areas.

Committed to conservation, Batista was part of the Unidos para el Desarrollo de Montecristi Foundation from 2005 to 2017, where he actively participated in reforestation and coastal cleanup initiatives. In addition, in 2007 he launched a personal project to visit every province and protected area in the country, successfully covering the entire National System of Protected Areas (SINAP).

From 2020 to August 2024, he served as a technical and environmental advisor to this ministry. During this period, he was appointed as the institution’s representative to several governing bodies, including the Board of Directors of the Santiago Botanical Garden and the Pepillo Salcedo Development Plan. His leadership and dedication to environmental protection have been key to advancing sustainability and conservation policies in the country.
