IG3IS Webinar Series (Q3-Q4, 2025): The Toronto Atmospheric Monitoring of Emissions (TAME) Project: Evaluating progress and co-benefits while avoiding pitfalls on the way to net-zero
Speaker:
Debra Wunch, Associate Professor, Atmospheric, and Planetary Physics group in the Department of Physics, and a cross-appointed member of the School of the Environment at the University of Toronto.
Overview:
The Greater Toronto Area is Canada's largest city, and is reported to produce around 8% of the country's greenhouse gas emissions, while aiming to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. The Toronto Atmospheric Monitoring of Emissions (TAME) project was designed to equip the Greater Toronto Area with the atmospheric observatories required to quantify and monitor greenhouse gas emissions and air quality, validate and refine inventories, and provide timely information to governments to implement and verify the effects of emissions policies. The project is now at its halfway mark, and this presentation will report on our progress, setbacks, and future work.
