WMO Coordination Mechanism (WCM) Climate Outlook Briefings for the UN and humanitarian agencies

The WMO Coordination Mechanism (WCM) provides climate outlook briefings to support the UN and humanitarian agencies with reliable, expert-driven information on climate variability (e.g., ENSO) and seasonal forecasts. This aligns with WMO’s strategic goal of strengthening authoritative climate services for humanitarian and crisis response. In 2024 and 2025, Save the Children and the Start Network coordinated the global briefings, receiving strong positive feedback and growing demand, especially for regionalized content. Now, WCM plans to take the lead, expanding access to the briefings across the wider humanitarian community. These briefings aim to help the UN and humanitarian actors improve forecast monitoring, contingency planning, risk analysis, and strategic preparedness.
