Common Alerting Protocol (CAP) Webinar Series for Guatemala

The Common Alerting Protocol (CAP) was introduced to Guatemala’s National Meteorological and Hydrological Service (INSIVUMEH) during the IBFWS and CAP Implementation Workshop for the Americas, held in Santiago, Chile, in December 2024. As a follow-up, and in coordination with the WMO Regional Office, INSIVUMEH has agreed to move forward with CAP implementation through a dedicated webinar series.

The main objective of the webinars is to technically train INSIVUMEH staff in the implementation of the Common Alert Protocol (CAP) to strengthen the issuance of multi-threat alerts in Guatemala, taking advantage of the experiences of other NMHS in the region.

  • Tuesday, May 13, 1700UTC-1800UTC - Fundamentals and benefits of CAP -Introduction to the value of CAP
  • Tuesday, May 20, 1700UTC-1800UTC - CAP Notices, Structure and Use of the Program-Detailed review of the structure of a CAP message, CAP editing tools and sharing of good practices.
  • Tuesday, May 27, 1700UTC-1800UTC - CAP Message Exercises- Formatting CAP messages in simulated scenarios.
  • Tuesday, June 3, 1400UTC-1500UTC - CAP implementation experiences in the region and closing of the training

Training will be supported by experts from Panamá, Dominican Republic and México who will share good practices and lessons learnt for CAP implementation and provide support for the formatting of warnings into CAP. Key WMO partners including the IFRC, ITU and UNDRR will also participate in these sessions.
