CREWS SWFP- Eastern Africa Training Desk, Nairobi, 18-22 August 2025

The CREWS/SWFP- Eastern Africa Training Desk will be organized in Nairobi from 18 to 22 August 2025 for Djibouti, Somalia and Sudan who have joined the WMO Severe Weather Forecasting Programme (SWFP) in Eastern Africa in the recent past. In addition, Eritrea will also be requested to join the training desk. The training desk is expected to be participated by the designated national SWFP focal points, senior forecasters and the Permanent Representatives (PRs) of the above countries with WMO.  The training desk will aim to familiarize PRs and their experts on SWFP framework and its “cascading forecasting process”, and to improve regional severe weather forecasting guidance products for the countries by sharing local knowledge and exchange of information and experience among the experts attending the training desk. Trainers from the Regional Specialized Meteorological Centres (RSMCs) in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam will contribute to the training desk.
