The initiative, supported with resources jointly provided by the World Meteorological Organization, through the Education and Training Programme (ETRP), and the National Institute for Space Research (INPE), aimed to strengthen technical and operational capacities within National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs), particularly in the application of the new, community-based, global unified Earth system modelling framework developed at INPE. Participants received training in Numerical Weather Prediction, uncertainty analysis, case studies, and hands-on exercises designed to enhance short- and medium-range forecasting skills.

Forecasters from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, and Uruguay took part – reinforcing regional cooperation, harmonization of forecasting practices, and knowledge exchange among Spanish-speaking countries in WMO Regional Associations for South America, and North America, Central America and the Caribbean. The initiative directly advances efforts to improve forecast quality, expand early warning capabilities, and enhance preparedness for extreme weather events across the region.

This initiative illustrates the strong and coordinated commitment of the World Meteorological Organization and the Federative Republic of Brazil to invest in forecasting excellence, strengthen early warnings, and support greater climate and disaster resilience throughout the Americas.
