Background

The SAP is the scientific advisory body of the Organization, providing forward-looking strategic advice on emerging challenges and opportunities related to the mandate of WMO for the purpose of long-term planning. The SAP developed the SAP Science & Technology Vision Paper that included eight recommendations to the WMO that the SAP believes should be acted upon to prepare the weather, water and climate communities for the future. These recommendations were appraised by the RB and the Nineteenth World Meteorological Congress (Cg-19) adopted a recommendation on how to move forward with the advancement of these recommendations. Resolution 35 (Cg-19)Scientific Advisory Panel Recommendations with Research Board Appraisal decides that “SAP Recommendation #6 on developing a closer integration of geophysical and social sciences to be advanced through a concept note developed by the RB in cooperation with SERCOM and the WMO Panel on Socioeconomic Benefits”.
